Topseal FAQs

  • What is Topseal GRP roofing?

Topseal GRP roofing is a fibreglass (glass-reinforced polyester) waterproofing system. It consists of a reinforcement mat saturated with resin, overlaid with a topcoat to produce a seamless, durable roof membrane.

  • What are the benefits of using Topseal for flat roofs?

Benefits include being cold-applied (no heat), fully seamless (no joints), UV and chemical resistant, lightweight, quick curing, and backed by a 30-year materials guarantee.

  • How long does Topseal roofing last and what guarantees are offered?

The standard Topseal system comes with a 25-year materials guarantee (plus workmanship). For more demanding applications, Topseal HD offers a 30-year guarantee.

  • Is Topseal GRP roofing suitable for pitched roofs or only flat roofs?

While often used on flat or low-fall surfaces, Topseal is also suitable for roofs with pitches (within limitations). The system is flexible and can be applied to appropriate pitched surfaces.

  • Can Topseal GRP roofing have anti-slip or decorative finishes?

Yes. For areas subject to occasional foot traffic (walkways, balconies), an aggregate or anti-slip finish can be applied. Topseal HD is particularly recommended for these areas with an anti-slip topcoat.

  • Does Topseal require hot works (flame) during installation?

No. Topseal is cold-applied, meaning no naked flames or hot works are needed. This helps reduce fire risk and helps with safety and compliance.

  • Are there specific edge trim and detailing options for Topseal installations?

Yes. Topseal offers a range of preformed edge trims, upstand profiles, corner and termination details. These are overlapped with the main laminate to form a fully seamless waterproofing solution.

  • Is Topseal certified or compliant with industry standards?

Yes. Topseal is BBA certified, BROOF (T4) fire rated to BS 476 Part 3, and is manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality and environmental standards.

  • Is the installation backed by a verification or approved installer scheme?

Yes. Every Topseal installer is given a unique verification number to prevent misrepresentation. Prospective clients should always ask installers for their verification ID.

  • Can Topseal be used on domestic and commercial projects?

Absolutely. The Topseal GRP system is widely used in both domestic and commercial applications, including flat roofs, walkways, balconies, refurbishment projects, and more.
