GREEN ROOFING
Advanced Roofing Solutions can undertake all aspects of Green Roof installation, starting with the waterproofing membrane, through the design stage to the eventual completion of either Sedum or intensive type planting schemes.
The Environment:
Green roofs are beneficial to the environment in many ways, especially in urban environments providing both cleaner and cooler air in summer months and a roof covering that can drastically soften the bland appearance of a typical flat, pitched or inverted roof. Green Roofs create a beneficial micro climate.

Attenuation:
The control and re-use or recycling of the rainwater that is absorbed into the reservoir layer is a completely unique feature of a living green roof.
Rainwater falls onto the roof surface providing the essential moisture for a living roof to thrive and once the reservoir layer has reached saturation point the water then drains away from the roof surface and can be diverted into storage tanks and collected and used for many applications including the watering of the living roof in dryer times.
The rainwater run off can be controlled during times of peak rainfall and any excess can be diverted into the existing drainage system or watercourse, subsequently reducing the risk of flooding.
Wildlife:
Many of our planting schemes incorporate the use of wildflowers which not only look good but more importantly will provide a natural habitat for wildlife that can often struggle in the ever increasing urban environment, and boosts bio diversity.
Noise Reduction & Thermal Insulation:
An Advanced Roofing Solutions Green Roof or Sedum Roof will provide an effective sound barrier, as the usual solid surfaces found on flat roofs will transmit sound into the inside of your property. The multi textured build up of a living roof will absorb and help to dampen surrounding noise levels.
Thermal insulation will also be improved by the additional layers which will help to conserve energy, making your property warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer months.
Structural considerations:
The weight of a fully saturated Green Roof in most standard applications can range from 70 Kg - 400 Kg per M2 depending on the type of roof chosen.
Typically a lightweight extensive Sedum roof would have a saturated load of approximately 80 Kg per M2 .
An intensive Green Roof scheme could exceed 400 Kg per M2 due to the increased depth of planting medium required to sustain healthy growth.

Advanced Roofing Solutions can provide the necessary structural calculations and reinforce or reconstruct any existing roof structure to make your dream of a living roof a reality.
The waterproofing layer:
We install both Topseal GRP and
Scotchkote polyurethane roofing membranes. Both these systems form completely seamless membranes which are BBA (British Board of Agrement) approved and certified, are covered by 25 year guarantees and do not involve the use of heat during the installation process. Many companies are still using heat or chemical jointed single ply membranes which can fail on complicated up stand details, leading to leaks which can be very difficult to locate once the roof has been planted.
